Produce manager playbook

One store. One pack. No mystery codes.

What is a Store Pack?

A Store Pack is a small training file for one location. It can contain your store name, PLU codes, item names, categories, sizes, custom study sets, and a PLUed catalog graphic for every item.

When a cashier imports it, PLUed builds a My Store track around the items you chose. The national produce library stays intact. Your pack adds the local layer: the apple sizes you stock, the seasonal table, or a house code that only your register team uses.

Sets are your drills. Each set you create in the builder — Front Table, Organic Wall, New Hire Week One — arrives in the cashier's app as a named practice collection under your store's name. A cashier can study, practice, or test exactly that group of items, in the order your floor actually works. A pack with three good sets is a training plan, not just a code list.

Good pack, not giant pack: include what a cashier can actually ring at your location. A clean 120-item pack beats a 600-row dump nobody trusts.

Build one in 10 minutes

  1. Open the Pack Builder. Enter the store name. The draft stays in that browser while you work.
  2. Add codes. Enter the PLU, item name, category, and optional size. For the picture, tap Use PLUed image and pick from PLUed's own produce art — your "Sweet Vintage Orange" can wear the orange it actually looks like. Truly novel item? Pick the closest match as a stand-in and submit the pack to the PLUed team — we build the real graphic.
  3. Create sets. Group items into useful drills such as Front Table, Organic Wall, Seasonal, or New Hire Week One. Each one becomes a named practice collection in the cashier's app.
  4. Fix any validation notes. The share tools unlock when required fields are clean and codes are usable.
  5. Download the .plupack. Keep it as your editable, offline backup.
  6. Copy the share link or print the QR. The link is instant and self-contained — codes, sets, and graphics all travel inside it, nothing is uploaded. Place the QR where new hires train.

Already have a pack? Paste your share link into "Open your published pack" — the builder restores its codes, sets, graphics, and identity from the link, so re-sharing keeps the same QR working. (A downloaded .plupack file still works too, as an offline backup.)

Bulk import from a spreadsheet

For a longer wall, do not type every row. Choose Import CSV in the builder.

ColumnRequired?What goes here
codeYesThe PLU or store code. Keep leading zeroes when your system uses them.
nameYesThe cashier-facing item name.
categoryYesA supported produce category such as fruit or veg.
sizeNoLarge, small, bunch, each, or another useful register distinction.
descriptionNoWhat the item looks like ("large green apple, waxy skin") — used with the name to auto-match a PLUed graphic.

Graphics match themselves

On import, the builder reads each row's name and description and picks the best-fit PLUed image automatically — the rows become your review table. Keep a match, or tap any graphic to swap it using the same picker as a typed row. The builder accepts common header names (a register export whose name column is called "Description" still works) and reports rows it cannot use.

Share it with the team

Share link and QR

Delivers codes, sets, and graphics — all inside the link itself. Put one poster in the breakroom and let cashiers scan from PLUed.

.plupack file

Carries codes, sets, and graphics in one offline backup. Keep this file so you can edit later.

The link is your pack: paste it back into the builder anytime to edit, and re-sharing keeps the same link and printed QR working. Cashiers on an older version see an "Update available" tap in the app — and anyone who taps your link on their phone with PLUed installed goes straight into the import.

Graphics tip: most "custom" codes are ordinary produce — a store-coded sweet potato is still a sweet potato. Pick its PLUed catalog image and the graphic travels inside the plain share link and QR: nothing to upload, nothing to publish, and it looks like the rest of the app. A close match is fine — it stands in until PLUed adds the exact item.

Publishing, submissions, and what gets sent

Nothing is uploaded when you share. PLUed catalog images ride inside the share link itself, so a pack shares as a self-contained offline link — no hosting, no account, nothing sent to PLUed. Anyone with the link can open it, so treat the QR like a handout, not a secret.

Submissions (always your choice). The builder has an unchecked box labeled Submit this pack to the PLUed team to consider for the app. Tick it if you'd like your store's codes considered for the built-in catalog, or to request a real graphic for a novel item (describe it in the note) — an optional "who is this from?" line lets us follow up. Nothing is flagged for review unless you tick the box.

Acceptable use. Keep pack content lawful and workplace-appropriate — item names, notes, and any hosted content are subject to review, and packs that break this rule are removed without notice. Hosted packs are unlisted (reachable only by their exact link).

Need a hosted pack removed — yours or one you were sent? Email [email protected] with the store name or pack link.

Trainer FAQ

Can I edit a pack later?

Yes — paste your share link into Open your published pack in the builder and keep editing. No file to keep track of. (A downloaded .plupack also works, as an offline backup.)

Do new hires need to pay?

The app is free to start. Level 1 (The Daily Dozen) is free. The full journey, every Store Section and Recipe Set, and full My Store training unlock with a one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription.

Does the QR include the graphics?

Yes. PLUed catalog images travel inside the link and QR themselves — nothing is uploaded, and the link works offline forever.

What about items PLUed has no image for?

Pick the closest match — it stands in until PLUed adds the exact item. Then submit the pack with a short description of what the item looks like, and if it belongs in the catalog we build the real graphic; every store gets it in the next update.

Does PLUed work for Spanish-speaking crews?

Yes. The whole app — menus, all 1,087 produce names, concepts, and coaching notes — is available in Spanish (beta). Cashiers switch it themselves from Settings → Language; your Store Pack's codes and graphics work the same in either language.
